Disabling animations

The animations to perform just about any actions feel painfully slow when you’re coming from Windows 10. Luckily, there is a way to disable them.

  1. Open ‘Settings‘.
  2. Click ‘Accessibility‘ in the menu pane.
  3. Choose ‘Visual Effects‘.
  4. Disable ‘Animation Effects‘.

Disabling diagnostics & feedback

  1. Open ‘Settings‘.
  2. Click ‘Privacy & Security‘ in the menu pane.
  3. Click ‘Diagnostics & Feedback‘.
  4. Disable ‘Send optional diagnostic data‘.
  5. Disable ‘Improve inking & typing‘.
  6. Disable ‘Tailored experiences‘.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge is using a lot of RAM by default.

Disable new tab preloading in memory

  1. Open ‘Microsoft Edge‘.
  2. Click the hamburger button at the top right.
  3. Click ‘Settings‘.
  4. Click ‘New tab page‘.
  5. Disable ‘Preload the new tab page for a faster experience‘.

Disable hardware acceleration

Only disable this if you’re short on RAM and don’t watch videos frequently with Microsoft Edge.

  1. Open ‘Microsoft Edge‘.
  2. Click the hamburger button at the top right.
  3. Click ‘Settings‘.
  4. Click ‘System‘.
  5. Disable ‘Use hardware acceleration when available‘.

Stop apps from running in the background

  1. Open ‘Microsoft Edge‘.
  2. Click the hamburger button at the top right.
  3. Click ‘Settings‘.
  4. Click ‘System‘.
  5. Disable ‘Continue running background apps when Microsoft Edge is closed‘.

Stop preloading Microsoft Edge in memory

  1. Open ‘Microsoft Edge‘.
  2. Click the hamburger button at the top right.
  3. Click ‘Settings‘.
  4. Click ‘System‘.
  5. Disable ‘Use startup boost‘.
